You may be able to take part in the X-NOVA2 Study if you:
There is no cost to take part in the X-NOVA2 Study. Study-related care will be provided by trained medical staff. You do not need health insurance to join.
What happens if I fill out the pre-screening questionnaire?
If you pass the initial study screener, we will match you to an X-NOVA2 Study location in your area that needs volunteers with depression or major depressive disorder (MDD). If there is not a current study site in your area, a Patient Engagement Specialist may reach out to you in the future via the email address or phone number (call or text) you provided to share information about new study opportunities for major depressive disorder that you may qualify for.
Keep in mind that participation is entirely voluntary. If you decide to take part in a study, you may change your mind about participating at any time.
Depression often affects a person’s entire life—their mood, thoughts, body, and actions—and once someone has had one episode of depression, they are at risk of experiencing more depressive episodes.1 Major depressive disorder (MDD), or clinical depression, is a mood disorder that involves feelings of sadness and loss of interest in activities—it may affect normal everyday routines and some may feel extreme despair.2
Symptoms of depression may include:
Depression is a complex condition that may be caused by a combination of factors, including:
A clinical research study (also called a clinical trial) is a medical study that helps to answer important questions about an investigational medication, device, or vaccine—these may include how well an investigational medication, device, or vaccine works for a certain condition. All medications must be tested in clinical research studies before they can be approved and prescribed to patients.
Clinical trials are a type of clinical research that answers specific questions about new therapies or new ways of using known treatments. Clinical research studies help us better understand medicine and health.
Even over-the-counter medications, such as over the counter medications you may have used for headaches, have gone through the clinical research study process before it was available at your local pharmacy.
Those who qualify to take part in the study may be reimbursed for study participation. Please discuss this with the study team when they contact you.
The research team will be able to explain more about what the X-NOVA2 Study will involve, and it is up to you to decide if you want to take part. Participation in this study is voluntary. Whether or not you decide to participate in this study will not affect your current or future relationships with your doctors. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw at any time without affecting those relationships.
We match you to a study site within a close travel distance from your home. If we are not running the study in your area currently, with your permission, we will keep you in our database and reach out once a depression study in your area becomes available. If, at any time, you decide you no longer want your information stored, you can opt out and we will delete your details.
The X-NOVA2 Study is looking to enroll approximately 450 participants (ages 18–74 years) with symptoms of depression at study sites across the United States. The study will include a 6-week treatment period, which involves taking an investigational medication daily, followed by an 8-week follow-up period. In this study you will be randomly assigned to receive investigational medication or placebo, which looks identical to the investigational medicine but has no active ingredient. You may be offered the chance to continue the study medication through participation in a separate open-label extension study, which means you will receive the investigational medication for up to a year after the 6-week treatment period if you wish to do so.
During this time, a dedicated medical team will provide participants with study-related care at no cost. Volunteers who qualify to take part in the study may be reimbursed for study participation. No health insurance is required.
